Well the “season” is almost upon us
down here in Florida. Soon it will be time to open up
the house and let the cool winter breezes in. Our First
Saturday fly in events are going great. Even in the hot
summer months we have had well over 100 people come to
the breakfasts. If you are ever in our area come on by
and be a part of the fun. Our calendar is filled out
into April of next year. We will have an airshow in
November when Corkey is our speaker. Over
the next six months our speakers will be: Corkey Fornof, Patty Wagstaff, Jerry Yellin,
John Armstrong, Valiant Air Command, Recreational
Aviation Foundation, etc.
If you have ideas for great
speakers or know of some great charities that you think
would work well at First Saturday, please call or email
me with the information.
Our Aerodrome Service Department
is expanding. We now have 3 mechanics on staff
and the shop is getting busy. If you are looking for a
good shop for your plane, please give us a call. Not
only can we do a great job, but Sebastian is a great
place to visit. Our current Aerodrome promotion is
$100 coupon for fuel with your annual. We have courtesy cars available, and
great deals on hotels, kayak trips or guided fishing.
Our engineering department has been
REAL busy. John Wertz has a ton of new BoomBeam STC
approvals. We will be announcing new models and new
upgrades as they clear through the FAA. Our latest is
the upgrade for the Hawker BoomBeam where we took the
standard BoomBeam and increased the output by another
65%.
We are making great strides on the
DeltaHawk Diesel engine installation. If you have not
been following the DeltaHawk project….you have been
missing out. This is one cool engine. Lower fuel
consumption-Longer range-Higher performance.

Before
getting into the report, let me say that I am not affiliated
with LoPresti. My comments and findings are based on the
installation of a set of LoPresti SpeedMerchants
SpeedSpats
(main landing gear fairings) on my personal aircraft, a 1974
Arrow-II. There is nothing special about this Arrow. For those
who want to compare performance figures to their own Arrow, mine
has a high-time engine and it has a 3-blade Hartzell propeller.
Why LoPresti Speed Spats? The answer arrived from a number of
reasons that fit me (but perhaps will not fit others). First,
the Arrow fits our family lifestyle the best and I have no
interest in purchasing another aircraft with faster inherent
speed at this time. That being said, I wanted a little faster
cruise performance – and that pointed me in the direction of
speed modifications for the Arrow. LoPresti happens to be
located at my airport home base of Sebastian, FL (they just
relocated from Vero Beach) – which caused me to favor their
products versus others on the market.

Well,
it has been a slow month. The Fury has been living in
Sebastian for the past six weeks. It’s been there for
several reasons, just a normal check up and Curt has
been giving rides to the fury Squadron. They’re the guys
building the Furies to determine a number of factors.
Things like how long it will take to build, the number
of packages that make up the fast built kit and the
cost. I’ll retrieve the Fury the end of September and
start a whirl-wind October. So if you can make one of
the shows, please come by and we can talk Furies.

Yes, I will be busy but
then the Fury makes it easy
and lots of fun.
As I fly around the
country, I have had a lot of
people ask for a little more
history about my career, so
I figured I would share a
new press release we
composed for these
questions. Please feel free
to send your feedback.
Demonstrating the
LoPresti Fury around the
country at airshows and
aviation events fits
“Corkey’s” aviation
skill and interest. The
Fury is sexy,
comfortable, fast,
aerobatic and economic;
it’s every pilot’s
perfect airplane.
How did he get to
this point in his
career? Well, here’s a
bit of his history.
You’ve seen his work
and never realized it
was “Corkey.” Whether
it was the opening
sequence of James Bond
007 “Octopussy”, the
airport scenes in
“Indecent Proposal”,
crashing of the Lockheed
Jetstar through hangar
doors in “Face Off”,
crop dusting Walter
Matthau and Jack Lemon
in “Odd Couple II”,
landing a Beech 18 on
floats into a volcano’s
lagoon in the “Phantom”
or flying a 747 through
the canyons in “Mission
Impossible II”, it was
none other than J.W.
“Corkey” Fornof – movie
pilot extraordinaire.
In his aviation talks
he always uses two
disclaimers that you
usually don’t
want to hear a pilot
say.
First, that he has
worn more dresses and
wigs than he can recall.
Yes, it was during film
work doubling for some
of the industry’s
leading actresses. He
does admit the
dresses are great when
filming in the desert.
Second, he is very proud
to be a “Mickey Mouse
Pilot” because The Mouse
House (Disney) has been
very good to him.
“Corkey” has
17,000-plus hours in
over 300 different
types of aircraft. He
has flown on every
continent of the world
but Antarctica. He has
flown over 2,800
low-level aerobatic
performances in nine
different types of
aircraft. Some of these
aircraft include the
Pitts Special, Christian
Eagle, Bellanca Super
Viking, BD-5J, T6, P-51,
F8F Bearcat and LoPresti
Fury. He’s flown for
every major airshow in
the United States and
several foreign
countries. He formed the
first civilian high
performance aerobatic
flight demonstration
team, using WWII
fighters. First, it was
with his Dad’s (Bill
Fornof) F8F Bearcat and
P-51 Mustang. Then he
and his Dad teamed in
matching Grumman F8F
Bearcats. By this time,
at only 27 years old,
“Corkey” formed and lead
the first civilian jet
demonstration team,
flying BD-5J’s.
Additionally, he’s
worked as a Movie/TV
pilot, Airshow pilot,
Test pilot and Corporate
pilot.
“Corkey” has been
featured in every major
aviation magazine around
the world, as well as
many TV news and other
programs.
“Corkey” has written
a variety of aviation
articles for a number of
publications. His
articles cover some of
his own experiences and
other aviation notables
such as Clay Lacy.
Continually, he receives
requests from major
aviation and corporate
events to be an aviation
speaker.
“Corkey’s” treasured
compliments include:
• Jimmy Doolittle,
Aviation Hero & Legend
“Corkey” I want to
fly with you. You would
have worked for me. Yes,
you sure would have
worked for me.”
• Adolf Galland, WWII
Ace & German General
“ “Corkey”, what I
wouldn’t have given to
have had you in my
Squadron!”
• Cubby Broccoli,
Producer 007 films
“Corkey”, you are
James Bond’s pilot.
Nobody does it
better.”
• R.A. Bob Hoover
(need any more be said)
“Corkey”, they’re
talking about doing a
movie about me. I told
them only you could do
the flying.”
•
Barrie Osborne, Major
Film Producer
“Corkey’s”
varied experiences,
skills and contacts
allow him to capture the
thrill and fascination
of aviation in the
safest, most
cost-effective manner,
putting the magic into
every film sequence.”
• Harrison Ford,
Pilot/Actor
“Corkey”, your life
IS a movie.”
It is clear how this
huge overload of
experience in the
aviation arena combined
with his movie
adventures lead “Corkey”
to his present ‘gig’ of
showing off in the near
perfect LoPresti Fury
aircraft. As he
describes, “The sky is
my playground and my toy
– the Fury.”

LoPresti Aviation has done it again
For Hawker BoomBeam Kits
LoPresti now has an X2 upgrade kit available for Hawker
aircraft that have previously installed BoomBeam HID
lights.
According to David LoPresti, Marketing Director, "The
original BoomBeam kit improved lighting for the Hawker
so much that we are on the majority of the fleet. With
the release of the X2 Kit we have really upped the
ante. The original BoomBeam was a quantum leap in
output, now the X2 is 50% brighter than the original."
Customer feedback is always the best source for proof or
disproof of your product's acceptance. At LoPresti
Aviation, engineers set out to increase exterior
lighting on the Hawker 800 series. Judging from the
customer feedback, the product continues to exceeded all
expectations.
Mark
Jones, Director of Maintenance for Cozzens and Cudahy
Air, found out first-hand how impressive the LoPresti X2
BoomBeam Lighting upgrade is for the Hawker 800s.
"I
have to say this about the LoPresti BoomBeam HID light
system for the HS125:
They work great.
Our Company was one of the first to try the original and
now with the X2 System, all that needs to be said is
WOW.
Both sides were installed in one day. The output of the
lights is at least 50% brighter than the original
BoomBeam kit and that kit was a giant improvement over
the standard factory light"
"The units have all the harness made up and the
instructions are easily followed for the installation
process. This product produces no heat. So, in the past
years we have never had to replace a lens
due to heat issues. This was a common occurrence with
the original factory lights on the Hawker. The BoomBeam
lights are reliable and we have not had a failure since
the original installation."
"Since I am a Crew Member and Technician, I see the
BoomBeam Mod from both sides. They succeed in all areas:
Reliability, Maintainability and (most of all) Cost
Effectiveness. Each time a light is replaced the Wing
Lens must be removed and resealed - this is downtime
and the BoomBeams have eliminated this issue," reported
Mark.
Mark Jones is the Director of Maintenance on the Hawker
800XP operated by Cozzens and Cudahy Air, working on
this type of aircraft for 20+years. He also crews the
same aircraft, operated worldwide. A member of the
National Business Aircraft Association Hawker Technical
Committee, he has earned the Master Technician on the
Hawker 800XP and the Master Technician with the
Management Endorsement from Flight Safety. Mark also
holds a Current Flight Safety Pro Card as Pilot in
Command on the Hawker 800XP, with 5000 hours
operational experience as a pilot on the Hawker Series
Aircraft.

We also sponsor Matt Younkin and
the Aeroshell Team with our lights. The link below
shows some of Matt’s airshow. He flies with over 13 of
our lights and it makes a great show. When he says,
“when I am upside down the BoomBeams light up the runway
from over 2000 feet.”

About the speaker Bob
Gibson, an AOPA and EAA Lifetime Member.
Bob has a passion for supporting aviation and loves to help
initiate a new EAA Chapters, and brings ideas to keep Chapter members
“pumped up” with a variety of activities, missions and
interests.
For
more than 100 years, 4-H Clubs have been the primary delivery
method of the 4-H program. Caring volunteers, together with
University of Florida Faculty, provide opportunities for youth
to "learn by doing" in a club setting. In their clubs, 4-H
members are learning valuable life skills.
Most young people join a 4-H club that they're already
familiar with. Others join a club based on the types of projects that
club offers. 4-H Clubs are open to all youth, ages 5 - 18. Some
projects, like large animal projects, are reserved for members 8
years and older.
If you would like to join a 4-H Club, please contact that
club's leader if you know them. If not, contact the Indian River
County Extension Office.
The Cooperative Extension Service is nationwide and was
established by the Smith-Lever Act of 1914. It is a partnership
between state land grant universities, the United States
Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the county governments
throughout the nation. All of these groups share in the
planning, financing, and operation of extension programs. In
Florida, the Cooperative Extension Service is administered by
the University of Florida.
